It's hard to take back what should not have been said. Robert Gibbs, Obama's press secretary, is probably very sorry he have an
interview to The Hill in which he blasted the "professional left" for never being satisfied with what the President is doing. Much has been broadcast about Gibbs' rant, especially on the left-leaning cable TV shows that Gibbs said he watched too much of in his weak apology to the left.
Democrats are different from Republicans in that they do not follow lock-step what the conservative leadership, FOX News, and various right wing-nuts on talk radio tell them to think and do. But, what makes Democrats critical thinkers is also what causes them to be divided and weak when faced with the constant beat of Republican opposition. Left leaners cannot be expected to be happy with everything Obama has done. Yes, he has accomplished a lot, but when he became president, he realized that it would be harder to enact some of what he had promised in his lofty campaign speeches. And, some of what the left expected was never really promised by Obama if you listen carefully to his rhetoric. Nevertheless, I still support the President, and realize that he has made great progress in just a year and a half of his administration compared to the destruction of the economy and our country's good name that George Bush wrought. A lot of people I talk to and read are on the same page. You don't have to agree with a person 100% of the time to support him--and, think of the alternative!
As I said, much has been written about Gibbs' outburst, but I invite you to read

Crooks and Liars. I don't agree with all of it, and certainly, as Democrats we would not be expected to, but it does express the hurt feelings of many on the left, and left-wingers feeling dissed is not good as the fall election is fast approaching.
