Here are a couple of articles I am recommending for your reading (dis)pleasure. Remember how we Democrats said that elections have consequences. I have alluded to the cuts in education and social programs as a major part of the McDonnell administration's budget balancing mechanisms in a post last week. Now, McDonnell's drastic measures to balance Virginia's budget on the backs of those least able to bear them are being examined in detail in several other publications. In the Virginia Politics section of Wednesday's Washington Post is the following column: In private, Virginia governor pushes deep budget cuts and over at Blue Commonwealth blog, Elaine from Roanoke refers to McDonnell's preferred cuts mentioned in WaPo and elaborates on what they will mean to education, health care, state workers, and Virginia Retirement System among others in her post, Vicious Budge Cuts, Cowardly Governor. In addition, the comments after this post make interesting reading.

I find myself angry and sad about this situation too many days lately. Worse yet, even though I contact my state senator and House of Delegates member, I don't seem to have much influence as an individual to effect change.
