Earlier in the week, I wrote about Governor McDonnell's fake surplus that he has the audacity to go around bragging about. Today, The Roanoke Times editorial,
A Phantom Surplus, makes these points: first, it isn't a real surplus due to deferred payments to the Virginia retirement system; second, budget problems would be much, much worse if McDonnell had not quietly taken stimulus money. During the campaign, he was totally against accepting President Obama's assistance, but now, in true Republican hypocritical form, he took stimulus monies to help him lower the budget shortfalls.
