Over a year ago, Congress voted to allow loaded guns to be carried in our national parks. In another blow for gun control, Governor McDonnell reversed the policy of Governor Tim Kaine who had banned carrying firearms in the open by Virginia state park users.

President Obama has placed gun control on his back burner, Congress, even many Democrats, will not oppose the National Rifle Association's call for more guns in more places, and we have a governor who thinks that the Department of Conservation and Recreation has no authority to ban guns.

You have to hand it to McDonnell, he didn't make a big deal out of his lifting of the ban because, as on most issues, he wants as little controvery as possible. I'll wager that he doesn't want a public outcry from citizens, gun control groups, or newspaper editorials that he may think would hurt his chances as a Vice Presidential nominee. I say, go for it governor. Own your decision to put more guns in the open around families who probably don't feel really safe from gun violence already.
